In Other Words...

Mary Poppins is a childhood hero of mine. She doesn't beat out Maria Vontrap but she's a tough, close competitor. All these years since the beginning of my magical childhood viewing-times, I've never paused to learn how to say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards... until now. A couple of weeks ago I listened over and over and over and over again to the clip of that song with the magical backward word. Now I catch myself saying it in my head at random times of the day, sort of like the way an annoying song pops up in your head, only Marry Poppins could never be annoying. What? You want to say it too? Here's how it goes:

docious-ali-expi-istic-fragi-calli-rupes(roopus)

If you say it over and over and over and over again, it becomes quite catchy. Maybe if someone makes a rude gesture at you while you're out driving around, you can say it to yourself and you'll feel better. Or maybe if you want to freak someone out that's bugging you and won't go away, you could say it to them too. I'm sure the magic would work wonderfully and they'd leave you alone. If, in ignorance, that nuisance of a person asks what you just said, you can tell them it was a jinx. They won't know the difference and I'm sure after hearing such news they'd definitely leave you alone. How magical. Thank you Mary Poppins.

Purchased and Practiced

Today I bought the sheet music for "The Way I am", recorded on the above pictured album, and went home to jam on the piano. Needless to say, I averaged singing about a word a minute. It took considerable concentration playing the notes. It's coming along though. I couldn't embed the music video directly to here but if you'd like to see it, click HERE. I would suggest listening to the song without watching the video. The video is full of clowns, which promotes the creepy factor upon first viewing. If you must watch, watch. But if you've never heard the song my recommendation would be to simply listen first. Processing the audio and visual at the same time afford a completely different experience.

P.S. If you come on over for a visit, maybe you'll get a personal concert or something. Just be warned that I might require you to play the bongo drums.

Trololo-Nuhnuh-Oh-Hohoho

Here in Mesa, AZ it's feeling like spring. Oh, the feelings I get when I take a stroll down the street! I do take strolls down the street, ya know. It may be scary to imagine, but this video of Eduard pretty much sums up what those quick jaunts around the block look like; though truthfully, my live experiences vary with a sing-song whistling instead of the impressive Trololoing. Pay close attention to those feelings that stir inside as you watch. By the end, you'll probably want to go on a stroll yourself. If you don't feel the urge, I can bet that the lyrics will most likely run through your head a time or two throughout the day.

Take it away Eduard...

We are the World

On the night of the Olympics opening ceremonies, We Are The World 25 For Haiti (it's a remake of the original that was written 25 years ago to raise funds for the crisis that took place in Ethiopia) premiered to raise money for the reconstruction of Haiti. The video and song were downloaded at our household that very night and one or the other now plays almost around the clock. I get chills every single time I listen to it. Every time. Las woke up during the middle of the night and couldn't go back to sleep for another hour and a half because it was stuck in her head. She couldn't stand it the next day but I'm sure she'll be over it by the end of today. I'm not tiring of it yet. Because we sing it so much around the house, we now can imitate the different mannerisms and voice variances of the individual singers. You may say we are big fans around here but I must correct you by saying that no, we are not big fans, we are the world. Watch the official video below to feel the love. How fitting for this Valentine season!

Note: It's better to watch it in a larger frame. Click the four arrows on the bottom of the clip or watch it on youtube HERE.

Celebrate Good Times. Come On.

The other night I was driving in the car listening to Queen's "We Will Rock You" and out of nowhere I thought "This has got to be played at my funeral." Whoah. I don't no where it came from and it might not make sense to you but I was definitely feelin it.

Last night sis Las (pronounced Loz) showed me a youtube video of a legitimate wedding procession. Wow. Exactly what I was feelin/envisioning for my earthly departure, only wedding style. For a few brief seconds I thought "Is this a go for major life event number two? Yes. Done deal." Technically the wedding would be event one and the funeral would be number two, a done deal, because, well, I'd be done. In all reality I for sure would never have this happen for my funeral or wedding but I definitely can't say the thoughts didn't cross my mind.... and heart. I was feelin it.

Are you feelin it?

All You Need is Love

Holy Smokes. I love world-unity-feel-good types of movies. Don't you? Here's one to start out the New Year...

Also, Bobby, Shauni mentioned that you sort of look like the guy with the beard sitting on the front row of minute 1:04. I can definitely see it...

Music for the Day

Growing up, music appreciation was big with my dad. Classical (as in orchestra/symphony/etc.) music was to be listened to on the radio. Rap and Radio Disney were not options; however, on Saturday afternoons cruising around town in the Acura, we absorbed classics from other genres. Classic rock was a basic staple for those memorable rides. Toto, Heart, Styx, The Cars, and Fleetwood Mac were all frequents. My post today hails an also Saturday-classics frequent that has become a solid piece of my soul, my music soul.

Paul Simon's album Graceland incorporates musicians from South Africa and is not like his earlier folkie albums recorded with Garfunkel. It is in itself its own unique genre.

Graceland flows through my veins. I listen to it now, and I might add, not just in the car on Saturdays. The songs are gems. If you don't listen to the whole genius of an album, listen to track 2, 3, 5, 6, or 8. If you prefer youtube, here is a live recording of Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes at a concert in Zimbabwe. Here is a the song Graceland from the same concert. He also recorded a music video featuring Chevy Chase in the song Call Me Al. As a side note, Simon keeps forgetting that Chase is supposed to do the lip-syncing. He slips up a bunch, but is still a music legend just the same.

I leave you with solid, quality music and the mantra of "rock on," or should I say "classics on!" to be heeded by the reader promptly.
