Word to the Wise... or the Not So Wise

I was browsing through volume "M" of the World Books yesterday and came across a quote fitting for the end of the summer break (I'm back to school for student teaching in 2 weeks):

"In a government founded on the sovereignty of the people the education of youth is an object of the first importance."
